“Good deeds should be done with intention, not for attention”
“Water is Life” it was the logo of our GYSD event .
It was the 18 of the April when 11, 5th form pupils from Gymnasium no.99 decided to develop the GYSD event in our village. Firstly , we’ve thought about to renovate 4 wells, but later it turned out to be a little bit difficult task, so we focused just on one well that urgently needed to be renovated . It was a well built years ago at a crossroad to appease the travelers, the villagers. By unknown reasons ,for us, it had been left without attention by the neighbors.
When we got there the pupils were full of energy and desire to make a change, to serve their community the way they can . By 4 o’clock pm the work had started . They put on their working gloves . The boys had to work with the hoes to chop the grass around the well, and put into bags the cut grass for cleaning the area. The girls wanted to paint the well’s framework. As they were so many we agreed to divide the responsibilities. Some girls had to paint with paintbrushes, whilst others were ready to whitewash the concrete ring. Although we split the duties , they couldn’t observe them because it was too challenging. They kept bringing as an example Tom Sawyer ‘s reply ”Does a boy(girl) have a chance to whitewash(paint) every day? and they swapped their work as they preferred. We felt ourselves like the main heroine from the well known Romanian tale “Fata babei si fata mosneagului” the old man’s daughter when she took care of an old, untidy well.
As we worked in the street a lot of villagers that passed by encouraged us by saying good words, praising and supporting the pupils by treating them with juice and biscuits. At the end of the event each participant was treated with a delicious ice-cream.
It took us 4 hours to finish our job, although it we were tired we were happy we could make a difference.
This job wouldn’t have been achieved without our partners 'support “Supraten “and “ZelInvest” SRL, that offered 2 l of green paint , 4 paintbrushes , 1l of dissolvent , 2kg of lime and 50 lei.
You can take a delight of what it was like that day by watching the video project..
